Boston Police say the trouble started around 7:00 p.m., when the crowd moved from the Common toward Tremont and Winter Streets. What began as a demonstration quickly escalated as some protesters allegedly kicked a police cruiser, blocked traffic, and set off red smoke devices.
Authorities confirmed that 13 people — eight men and five women — were arrested at the scene.
Footage shared with Boston 25 News by Emerson College’s student newspaper, The Berkeley Beacon, shows officers physically confronting protesters, some being handcuffed on the ground, and others detained.
Police reported four officers were injured, with two requiring hospital treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. Early reports suggest broken bones among those hurt.
The protest coincided with the second anniversary of the Hamas terror attacks on Israel, a date that has drawn demonstrations nationwide.
As of 9:00 p.m. Tuesday night, none of the arrested individuals had been officially booked. Boston Police say more information is expected to be released Wednesday morning.
