Diddy Requests to Serve Prison Sentence in New Jersey to Focus on Rehab and Family

Written by on 10/07/2025

Sean “Diddy” Combs is hoping to serve the remainder of his prison sentence closer to home — and closer to his family.

According to TMZ, Combs’ attorney, Teny Geragos, has submitted a letter to Judge Arun Subramanian requesting that the hip-hop mogul be placed at FCI Fort Dix, a low-security federal correctional institution in New Jersey.

Geragos explained that Fort Dix would allow Combs to participate in the Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP) — the Bureau of Prisons’ most comprehensive substance abuse treatment initiative — while also giving him easier access to family visits.

“In order to address drug abuse issues and to maximize family visitation and rehabilitative efforts, we request that the Court strongly recommend to the Bureau of Prisons that Mr. Combs be placed at FCI Fort Dix for RDAP purposes and any other available educational and occupational programs,” Geragos wrote.

Combs was sentenced last week to four years and two months in prison for two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. The 55-year-old Bad Boy Records founder has already served about a year while awaiting sentencing and has reportedly participated in several in-jail recovery programs.

In a letter to the judge before his sentencing, Diddy expressed gratitude for his progress, writing:

“I’m proud to say I’m working harder than I ever have before. I’m committed to the journey of remaining a drug-free, non-violent and peaceful person. I thank God that I’m stronger, wiser, clean, clear and sober. God makes no mistakes.”

If granted time served, Combs is expected to spend roughly three more years behind bars and must also pay a $500,000 fine. While Judge Subramanian can recommend Fort Dix, the Bureau of Prisons will ultimately decide where Diddy serves out his sentence.
