According to FOX 13 News, Everett Police responded to the West Mall Place Apartments around 12:50 p.m. on October 3 after receiving reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found the postal employee suffering from a gunshot wound.
Investigators say the incident started as a verbal altercation before escalating into gunfire.
Postal Inspector John Wiegand confirmed the worker was on his delivery route when the suspect confronted him.
“At that time, he was confronted by another individual, and then a small altercation took place where the carrier was unfortunately shot in the face,” Wiegand said. “At this time, he is alive. He’s down at Harborview, making the next steps medically.”
The victim was rushed to Providence Hospital before being transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for specialized treatment.
The suspected shooter — believed to be an Amazon delivery driver — was arrested without incident and booked into Snohomish County Jail. Police have not released the names of either individual as the investigation continues.
Authorities are still working to determine what exactly led to the dispute. “It appears there may have been some kind of verbal altercation,” Wiegand added.
Neighbors described the victim as well-liked and hardworking.
“He’s a cool dude,” said Jelani Jones, who knows the postal worker personally. “Hard-working, down to earth, funny, just a regular guy. Somebody you say hello to, and he loved his old school cars. He’s like a friend to me.”
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service and Everett Police are working together on the case. No further details have been released.
