Teen Girl Critical After Uber Driver Opens Fire Outside Waffle House Over A Canceled Trip

Written by on 10/08/2025

A 16-year-old girl is fighting for her life after being shot four times during a heated confrontation with an Uber driver outside a Waffle House in Dunwoody, Georgia, early Sunday morning.

According to 11Alive, the incident happened around 2:30 a.m. when a group of five teenage girls tried to pile into the driver’s vehicle. The driver reportedly refused, saying the car couldn’t safely fit that many passengers.

“They argued with the driver about (the) refusal and who should cancel the trip with Uber,” the Dunwoody Police Department said in a statement. “The argument escalated, one of the females threatened to kill the driver and struck (the driver) in the face.”

Authorities identified the driver as 38-year-old Meredith Grundy. Investigators say security footage shows the victim walking away from the car with her back turned when Grundy allegedly opened fire — striking her in the shoulder, buttocks, and legs.

The teen, whose name has not been released, was rushed to the hospital and remains in critical but stable condition.

Grundy has been charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm.

Uber released a statement expressing support for the victim:

“Our thoughts are with the rider as she recovers from this horrifying attack. We removed the driver’s access to the platform as soon as this was reported to us, and we stand ready to support law enforcement with their investigation.”

The company also noted that under Georgia law, it cannot prohibit drivers from carrying firearms.

Police continue to investigate the shooting.
