Eight children were taken to hospitals from a choir concert at a church in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on Tuesday evening, in an incident that required a hazmat response, fire officials said.
Cambridge firefighters were called to St. Paul Parish near Harvard Square at about 7:30 p.m. for what were described as medical emergencies, and the eight children, pre-teens and earlier teenagers, were taken to medical facilities to be evaluated, the department said. The medical emergencies were described as non-life-threatening.
About 70 other people who were at the concert weren’t affected, firefighters said, and a hazmat team’s search of St. Paul’s buildings found no hazardous conditions, but the facility was ventilated.
The church had advertised a concert from a French children’s choir on Tuesday night.
Firefighters said everyone who’d been at the concert left with designated chaperones.
It wasn’t immediately clear what led to the incident
