Ayanna Pressley Endorses Michelle Wu In Race For Boston Mayor

Written by on October 1, 2021

Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley today announced her endorsement of current City Councilor At-Large Michelle Wu for Mayor of Boston, citing her experience and bold vision for the city.

“I’ve worked closely with Michelle Wu for nearly a decade. Michelle has a passion for service and a vision for our city that is grounded in her own lived experience and belief in the transformative potential of policy. At this pivotal moment in our city’s history, we need bold leadership – that’s why I’m so proud to endorse Michelle’s candidacy for Mayor. I look forward to continuing to work alongside her to tackle the entrenched challenges of racial, social, economic, healthcare, and environmental injustice facing our communities.”

Earlier this year, Councilor Wu received the Pressley Policy Pledge distinction, reflective of her commitment to a range of key policies, including reform of our criminal legal system, student debt cancellation, fare-free public transit, and more. The endorsement comes after Congresswoman Pressley weighed in on the campaign for Boston City Council last week, backing current City Councilor At-Large Julia Mejia, David Halbert, Ruthzee Louijeune, and Carla Monteiro for City Council At-Large and Kendra Hicks for Boston City Council District 6.”

Michelle Wu and Annissa Essaibi George will face-off Nov. 2 in Boston’s mayoral election. Both candidates are courting the support of Boston’s Black voters and Pressley’s endorsement is expected to help Wu with Black voters.
