On his Truth Be Told album, C.S. Armstrong delivered a sweet ode to his mother with “Black Woman.” He now shares a video for the single, divulging more details about the track.
“If I’m just totally honest with you, my mother and I, we don’t get along. I haven’t spoken to my mother in almost a year,” Armstrong shockingly told Billboard, while revealing that his mother is a domestic violence survivor. “I actually did send her ‘WWW’ because I had a show for New Year’s, and I went to Fort Worth with Leon Bridges, and I performed this song, and Leon wanted to perform the song with me. In the video, Leon is like, ‘I’m talking to your mama! She’s an extraordinary [woman].’ I was like, ‘Wow, this is an amazing moment.’ So, I sent the video to my mom, and she started crying.”
“This is the first time I wrote about it in songs like this — ‘WWW’ and ‘Black Woman’ — because it was like, wow, this black woman so close to me went through so much, and this is only tip of the iceberg with her story” he continues. “That inspired me for those two songs, for sure.”
Making its debut right here at the DopeHouse, the “Black Woman” video can be seen below. Check it out and be sure to keep Truth Be Told in rotation.
