Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley to Lead Powerful Policy Discussion on Reproductive Freedom at CBCF’s Annual Legislative Conference
Written by b87fm on 10/13/2025
The fight for reproductive justice is about to take center stage at one of the most influential political gatherings in the country. On Thursday, September 25, 2025 at 4:00 PM, Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (MA-07) — a leading voice in the movement for reproductive freedom — will host a powerful and timely policy discussion during the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Annual Legislative Conference (ALC).
Titled “Black Women’s Leadership & the Movement for Reproductive Justice,” the event will spotlight the role of Black women as the driving force behind the fight for abortion justice and reproductive freedom in America.
Joining Pressley for this high-impact conversation will be:
-
Alexis McGill Johnson, President and CEO, Planned Parenthood
-
Regina Moss Davis, President and CEO, In Our Own Voice
-
Renee Bracey Sherman, author of Liberating Abortion
The discussion will be held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Room 202B — a space that’s expected to be packed with policymakers, advocates, journalists, and movement leaders ready to shift the narrative and demand change.
Why This Conversation Matters
Reproductive freedom in the U.S. has been under relentless attack, with abortion bans and restrictions hitting marginalized communities the hardest. Black women — often at the epicenter of these battles — have long led the charge for bodily autonomy, healthcare equity, and justice.
Congresswoman Pressley’s leadership has been unapologetically bold. From introducing the Abortion Justice Act to co-sponsoring the Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA) and the EACH Act, she’s made it clear: reproductive care isn’t up for negotiation.
She’s also been a fierce critic of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, calling out the white supremacist roots of anti-abortion policies and demanding accountability from both lawmakers and the healthcare system.
Pressley’s Track Record Speaks Volumes
Pressley has consistently pushed for:
-
Federal protections for abortion care without stigma or barriers.
-
Repealing the Hyde Amendment, which disproportionately affects low-income communities.
-
Expanding access to medication abortion and over-the-counter birth control.
-
Centering the voices of Black women in policy decisions.
Pressley also led the charge in holding states accountable for deadly abortion bans — from Georgia to Texas — demanding justice for women like Adriana Smith and Amber Nicole Thurman, whose stories have become rallying cries for systemic change.
This is more than a panel. It’s a rallying point. A moment where policy meets power. And a reminder that when Black women lead, the fight for justice moves forward.
