American Voice in Poetry and Song III 3/17

Join singer and actor Davron Monroe and pianist Rachel Goodwin on March 17th at 4:00 PM for an event featuring African American Art Songs and Spirituals juxtaposed with poetry and prose by literary performer and poet Regie Gibson. This Convergence Ensemble event is hosted by the historic First Baptist Church in Dorchester (401 Ashmont St, Dorchester, MA 02124).

This program explores music through an historic lens and discusses societal issues surrounding social justice and representation in the world of American classical music. We use a combination of works by under-heard African American composers and poets to demonstrate the multifarious tapestry that is the American Voice. This iteration showcases songs by Margaret Bonds, John W Work III, Florence Price, Noel Da Costa and poetry from Langston Hughes, Edna St. Vincent Millay, and original work by Regie Gibson.
