Freddie Gibbs Stars In Upcoming Film, ‘Down With The King’

With notable appearances on Starz’ Energy E-book IV: Power (as Buddy) and Peacock’s Bust Down (as Chauncey), Freddie Gibbs will make his movie debut in Down With The King.

An indie circuit darling (with varied critics applauding Gibbs’ efficiency), the Diego Ongaro-directed film  is ready to hit digital and on-demand on June 28. The film’s synopsis reads:

Rap star Cash Merc [Gibbs] has been despatched by his supervisor, Paul [David Krumholtz], to a rural home within the Berkshires to give attention to his subsequent album. Disenchanted together with his music profession and the 24/7 repairs that such fame entails, Merc has no need to write down or report music. As a substitute, he spends most of his time at his neighbor’s farm studying about farming and having fun with the simplicity of nation life. After Merc abruptly declares his retirement on Twitter, Paul rushes to the countryside to lure him again into the music business.

“I don’t need folks to be like, ‘Oh, he’s simply taking part in himself.’ What’s the problem in that?” Gibbs stated to Hypebeast in 2021. “I needed to do one thing compelling, one thing extra avant-garde. You recognize, extra of a problem. I can simply get a bunch of men collectively and be gangster and shoot a gangster ass film about promoting medication. Okay, cool.
