Lil Uzi Vert Breaks Free: Rap Star Drops Two New Tracks and Officially Goes Fully Independent

Lil Uzi Vert ignited the internet Monday night with a double release that didn’t just introduce new music — it marked their full emancipation from Atlantic Records and the official launch of their independent era.

The Philadelphia rapper debuted “Relevant” and “Chanel Boy” as their first releases under Roc Nation Distribution, ending a major-label run defined by massive commercial wins and long-rumored creative restrictions.

The move places Uzi in elite company; only Jay-Z and Rihanna have previously been both managed and distributed by Roc Nation.

“Relevant,” produced by Trillion and Rima, hit DSPs first, followed by “Chanel Boy” and its slick New York City visual filled with luxury cars, aerial shots, and Uzi’s signature high-gloss aesthetic.

The timing is strategic. Just weeks ago, Uzi fulfilled their final Atlantic obligation with Eternal Atake 2, which debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 in November 2024. That release quietly closed the book on a partnership that Uzi had hinted felt limiting at times.

Roc Nation Distribution President Krystian Santini described the new arrangement as a rebirth rooted in autonomy: “Full creative control and the resources to take their artistry to new heights.” It’s a stark contrast to the traditional major-label structure that often pushes artists toward safer commercial formulas.

Uzi’s evolution mirrors a wider shift happening in Hip-Hop — legacy acts abandoning the old system in favor of flexible, artist-first models. And with these first two independent tracks, it’s clear Uzi isn’t easing into freedom; they’re sprinting.
