Magic Johnson Says His New Documentary Was Inspired By Michael Jordan’s “The Last Dance”

Magic Johnson says that he was impressed to make his new documentary, They Name Me Magic, after seeing Michael Jordan in The Final Dance. The Lakers legend mentioned the making of his new movie after its premiere on the South by Southwest Movie Competition over the weekend.
“The explanation we did it’s as a result of when Michael did ‘The Final Dance,’ my cellphone simply began ringing,” Magic mentioned in a post-screening dialogue. “They mentioned, ‘When are you popping out with yours?’ And we received some nice traders, nice companions, nice producers, they usually actually took it to a different stage.”

The Last Dance debuted on ESPN within the spring of 2020 and captivated audiences with on-screen interviews with Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, Steve Kerr, Phil Jackson, and extra.
As for the way They Name Me Magic will differ from The Final Dance, Magic defined that his piece focuses extra on his private life.
“[My family] mentioned, ‘What’s gonna be totally different from you and Michael Jordan’s [documentaries]?’” he continued. “And you may see. Michael — who I really like, that’s my pricey pal — however [‘The Last Dance’] was pushed by his nice accomplishments on the basketball court docket. [In ‘They Call Me Magic,’] you’re seeing my household, buddies, all people concerned. You’re going to see each episode be a special journey in my life. That’s what makes me proud.”
The collection is ready to air on Apple TV Plus, April 22.
