Washington Post Warns What Easing Texas COVID-19 Rules May Do To Rest Of The Country

Written by on March 3, 2021

The editorial board of The Washington Put up joined the rising refrain of criticism being leveled at Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) on Tuesday after he introduced the top of the state’s masks mandate and the upcoming rest of different restrictions aimed toward slowing the unfold of the coronavirus.

In a scathing column, the newspaper’s board described the choice ― which comes as each day new infections plateau ― as “untimely and reckless.”

Abbott was “playing with the well being of his state and past,” it stated.

“The governor’s choice could cheer these feeling rebellious, fatigued and impatient with the year-long pandemic restrictions,” wrote the board. “However the results of opening too quickly can be viral unfold, and extra struggling.”

“The winter holidays and the third surge have been terrible,” it concluded. “A fourth surge — which may unfold past Texas — is the very last thing the nation wants simply as vaccines are being rolled out. Mr. Abbott is throwing a match on kindling.”

Fears over Texas’ rest of COVID-19 restrictions have been echoed by White Home senior adviser Andy Slavitt, who described it to MSNBC’s Ari Melber on Tuesday as “a mistake.”

Former White Home medical adviser, Dr. Jonathan Reiner, warned Abbott’s transfer will “endanger the lives of hundreds of thousands of Texas.”

“That is his ‘Mission Achieved’ second and it’s not a very good one,” Reiner instructed CNN’s Erin Burnett. “We’ve seen this film and doesn’t end up effectively.”

Austin Mayor Steve Adler (D) instructed Abbott’s choice was not based mostly on information or science:

Former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas), in the meantime, referred to as it a “demise warrant for Texas.”
