30 Years Later, Faith Evans Reflects on Her Debut Album as a “Love Letter” to Notorious B.I.G.

Written by on 09/29/2025

Three decades after its release, Faith Evans’ debut album Faith is being celebrated not only as a cornerstone of ‘90s R&B, but also as an intimate window into her relationship with the late Notorious B.I.G.

Speaking with ABC News, Evans shared that her 1995 debut was deeply personal.

“My first album was absolutely a testament, a love letter, to B.I.G.,” she said. “It was the story of our relationship at the time.”

The project, filled with soulful confessions and raw emotion, has aged into a classic. Today, fans and critics alike revisit Faith as an album that shaped R&B while capturing the voice of a young woman navigating love, pain, and resilience in real time.

Evans has never shied away from speaking about her bond with Biggie. In a 2023 appearance on the Marriage or Mirage podcast, she recalled what made her love him most:

“Everything. I loved everything about him. He was honest… even at that young age. Honest as f*ck. Most of the time I didn’t know what was going on, but when I did, and I asked him, he told the truth.”

The two married just eight days after meeting at a Bad Boy Records photoshoot in 1994. They welcomed their son, Christopher Wallace Jr., in 1996, before separating ahead of Biggie’s death on March 9, 1997.

Now, 30 years later, Faith is remembered as more than a debut—it’s a heartfelt chapter in hip-hop history, bridging Evans’ artistry with Biggie’s enduring legacy.
