A$AP Rocky Says His Rift With Drake “Went Wrong Over Females,” Addresses Long-Running Tension

Written by on 01/22/2026

What’s really behind the lingering tension between A$AP Rocky and Drake? Fans finally have clearer answers—and they trace back to personal history.

The Don’t Be Dumb rapper addressed the long-simmering friction between himself and Drake in a recent interview with Apple Music’s Ebro Darden, confirming that their relationship has soured and attributing the fallout to past romantic entanglements, specifically involving Rihanna.

“I just don’t f— with him,” Rocky said bluntly when asked about Drake. While he downplayed the situation as not “real smoke,” he acknowledged their falling-out “went wrong over females,” a candid admission that personal relationships—and how they’ve been referenced publicly—played a major role in the divide.

Rocky’s comments arrive amid renewed fan speculation fueled by lyrics and social media chatter surrounding the release of Don’t Be Dumb. One song in particular, “Stole Ya Flow,” has drawn attention for lines many listeners interpret as a jab at Drake and a boast about Rocky’s relationship with Rihanna: “First you stole my flow, so I stole yo’ b—.”

Those bars have been widely linked to Drake, especially given the rapper’s own lyrical references to Rihanna on his 2023 album For All the Dogs, including “Fear of Heights,” which fans have long viewed as coded shots tied to their past.

Despite the lyrical sparring, Rocky framed much of the exchange as performative rather than truly hostile. Comparing hip-hop beef to professional wrestling, he suggested that trolling and baiting are often part of the culture.

“I think hip-hop tactics and beefs is, like, WWF. It’s like wrestling all the way,” he said. “But this thing between us, it’s not real smoke. But I just don’t f— with him.”

Still, Rocky made it clear that reconciliation isn’t on the table. The two rappers were once collaborators and friends, but Rocky said Drake’s continued lyrical references to Rihanna feel unnecessary and immature.

“We were once friends,” Rocky explained. “And I think at some certain point when everybody gettin’ older… for you to still be pickin’ at a female and all that, that’s soft to me.”

Rocky and Rihanna are now partners and parents, sharing three children together. Their relationship—and family life—has been a frequent topic of public fascination, particularly when other artists reference Rihanna in their music.

Rihanna and Drake famously had an on-again, off-again relationship for nearly a decade. Drake publicly declared his love for her at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards and later said on The Shop in 2018 that he envisioned having children with her. That shared history adds weight to even subtle lyrical nods, making moments like Rocky’s verses especially charged.

For now, the situation appears to be defined by pointed lyrics and cool distance rather than open conflict. Rocky emphasized that Don’t Be Dumb isn’t aimed at any one person—even as fans continue dissecting the bars.

With both artists still commanding massive influence and releasing high-profile projects, the tension may remain less about confrontation and more about interpretation—played out line by line in the music.
