Andra Day Claims Ex Manager Stole $1.6M Her, Leaving Her Almost Homeless

Written by on 10/10/2025

A major legal showdown is unfolding between Grammy-winning singer and Oscar-nominated actress Andra Day and her former management team.

According to PEOPLE, Day is being sued by BassLine Management and Buskin’ LLC for breach of contract and unjust enrichment. But the “Rise Up” singer has fired back with a lawsuit of her own, accusing ex-manager Jeff Evans of stealing $1.6 million and leaving her in financial crisis.

In her filing, Day calls Evans a “faithless fiduciary” who was “caught red-handed stealing from her.” She alleges he pocketed funds, drained her accounts, and mismanaged her finances to the point where she was nearly evicted from her home.

Evans’ legal team strongly denied the allegations, saying, “Ms. Day filed a baseless lawsuit against our clients one day after our clients brought an action against Ms. Day for royalties rightfully due to them. Our clients categorically deny the allegations made against them and look forward to their day in court.”

Day’s complaint claims Evans took all of the $600,000 Warner Bros. Records gave her to fund her album.

“Evans abused his role as a fiduciary to scam Day with blindless greed,” the filing states. “He siphoned so much money from Day — a quadruple-platinum hitmaker and Golden Globe Best Actress winner — that he left her facing eviction, unable to pay the monthly minimum on her credit card debt, and without sufficient funds to tour.”

The singer says she was left with over $300,000 in credit card debt and on the brink of losing her home.

Meanwhile, Evans’ companies claim Day owes them at least $850,000, alleging her failure to pay breaches multiple agreements made between 2011 and 2023.

Day is asking the court to terminate the 40% of her net profits and 20% of her gross earnings that Buskin claims it’s entitled to.

This legal battle could get ugly — and expensive — fast.
