Cardi B Beats $24M Civil Assault Case, Teases New Track “Bodega Baddie”

Written by on 09/03/2025

Cardi B just scored another win — this time in court. A Los Angeles jury ruled Tuesday (Sept. 2) that the Bronx superstar is not liable in a $24 million civil assault lawsuit filed by former security guard Emani Ellis.

The case stemmed from a 2018 incident inside a Beverly Hills OB-GYN office, when Cardi was secretly pregnant with her first child. Ellis claimed the rapper scratched her face and spat on her after she tried to film her. Cardi denied ever touching Ellis, calling it nothing more than a heated argument.

“I will say it on my deathbed: I did not touch that woman,” Cardi told reporters after the verdict. “I am not that celeb you sue thinking I’m gonna settle. I’m innocent — for real.”

Jurors took less than an hour to side with Cardi, clearing her of all allegations. Ellis had initially sought $24 million but later reduced her demand to medical costs plus $250,000.

The win comes at a busy time for the Grammy-winner, who admitted the trial forced her to miss her kids’ first day of school and left her switching wigs so often her “forehead was raw.”

Still, Cardi isn’t slowing down. She’s in the middle of rolling out her sophomore album Am I The Drama?, dropping Sept. 19, and used the moment to preview new heat. Fans got a taste of “Bodega Baddie”, a track that could land on the project.
