Damson IdrisĀ spent six seasons portraying Franklin Saint, a young street hustler and entrepreneur in search of power, on FX’s Snowfall. While BET Awards and NAACP Image Awards nominations were common for the show and his role, this year marked the first win for the actor, who took homeĀ the Image Award forĀ Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series.
Speaking of the honor, he toldĀ Essence,Ā “Robert De Niro once said, ‘Just be calm when things are going well. Donāt think you are on top of the world.’ That win definitely has me struggling to do that. For the fans, Franklin and co-creatorĀ John Singleton, it feels like so many of us won.”
With the show now wrapped up, Damson’s focused on other projects, including a Formula One film in which he plays a young rookie driver named Joshua Pearce opposite Brad Pitt. He tells the mag,Ā “[I]tās going to be a huge film thatās not only great for the movie business but great for the culture.”
If he was everĀ casted for a rom-com, Damson says he’d want the subject to be “love ā but just real life. Everything we experience today.”
“Love is something everyone can relate to, no matter their background,” he continues. “I tend to play really dark characters, but it would be fun to be in the Bahamas on a beach, wearing a bunch of oil.”
As he continues to work and hone his acting in Hollywood, there’s one lesson he’ll take with him along the way.
“The biggest life lesson Iāve learned is to remain humble,” Damson says. “I love the saying, ‘The giant looks in the mirror and sees nothing.’ Humility is such an important thing that can take humans far.”

It’s a rare occasion when Rihanna shares an update about her music, especially after years of making headlines for her babies and businesses. Fortunately for fans, she gave some tidbits on her process of creating her long-awaited albumĀ R9Ā duringĀ her cover story for Interview magazine.
āI have a lot of visual ideas. Itās weird. My brain is working backward right now. I usually have the music first, and the music leads me into all of these visual opportunities, and now Iām having all of these visuals,” Rihanna said.
She notes the visuals have not yet been translated into songs but believes they may end up “leading me to the songs that I need to make.ā
āRandom ideas, quirky ideas, things that have nothing to do with me at all,” Rih added.
One of the people who have something to do with Rihanna is boyfriendĀ A$AP Rocky. She recalled the time he grabbed her butt during their performance of āCockiness (Love It)ā at the 2012 VMAs and her team guessed she liked him because she didn’t react in a negative way.
Several years later, in 2019, they chose to date, proceeding with caution. āWeāve known each other for a long time. Iāve seen him in relationships. Heās seen me in relationships. Weāve seen each other outside of relationships,” Rih explained. “We knew what weāre capable of, and the trouble that we could bring to each otherās lives. We can make or break each otherās hearts. And so, we started dating with a lot of caution.ā
The two are now parents to sons RZA and Riot, but Rih says she’ll go for “as many as God wants me to have.”
āI would try for my girl,” she says. “But of course, if itās another boy, itās another boy.”
