EXCLUSIVE: Tony DeYoung Fires Back with DJ Silk & Dr. Phil Diss Tracks – Talks Roc Nation Deal, Ratings Legacy & New Hip-Hop Reign

Written by on 07/31/2025

Tony DeYoung is not playing games.

After dominating daytime television for nearly a decade — shattering Nielsen ratings on Dr. Phil and the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) — the multi-talented artist and media icon is making noise in a different arena: hip-hop. With the recent release of his explosive singles, “DJ Silk Diss Track” and “Dr. Phil Diss Track,” under the powerhouse imprint Roc Nation Distribution, DeYoung is bringing the heat — and the world is listening.

Now regularly featured on Billboard Hip Hop and commanding attention from millions across the globe, DeYoung’s transition from television royalty to music renegade is gaining serious momentum. Having been acknowledged on-air by the likes of Aftermath Entertainment, DJ Silk, and Dr. Dre’s team, DeYoung is proving he’s more than a one-lane icon — he’s an evolving force.

We sat down with Tony DeYoung for an exclusive interview to talk about the meaning behind the diss tracks, his connection with Roc Nation, his historic TV legacy, and what’s coming next.

BILLBOARD HIP HOP: Tony, thanks for sitting down with us. First off — these diss tracks. You came in hard. What made you want to go in on DJ Silk and Dr. Phil?

TONY DEYOUNG: Respectfully, it was time. I’ve been in the game — maybe not the traditional hip-hop scene, but I’ve been on major platforms, running circles in TV and media. People tried to silence me, control my narrative, and I stayed quiet for too long. These tracks aren’t just disses — they’re truth bombs. DJ Silk and Dr. Phil? They know why I did it. It’s documented. The people deserve to hear my side in full.

BHH: “DJ Silk Diss Track” especially turned heads — it’s raw, energetic, and personal. Did you expect the reaction it’s getting?

DEYOUNG: I knew people would talk. But I didn’t expect the wave. Streams are crazy, socials are going off, and it’s not just fans — it’s execs, industry heads, people I never expected. I said what a lot of people were afraid to say, and it resonated.

BHH: You’re now signed under Roc Nation Distribution. How did that come about?

DEYOUNG: Let’s just say real recognizes real. I had meetings, I had offers — but Roc Nation understood me. They didn’t try to box me in or change my voice. They said, “Let’s get your story out.” The distribution deal was the right move. Global reach, full control, major respect.

BHH: Your presence on Dr. Phil and OWN was historic. How do you reflect on that part of your career now that you’re dominating Billboard Hip Hop coverage?

DEYOUNG: It’s legacy. I don’t run from my TV past — I embrace it. I shattered ratings for over eight years, something not many can say. I’m still on OWN, still syndicated, still on demand. But now? I’m building on that. TV was Chapter One. Hip-hop is Chapter Two. And we’re just getting started.

BHH: You’ve been acknowledged by DJ Silk, Aftermath, and Dr. Dre’s team — what does that validation mean to you?

DEYOUNG: It’s huge. That’s family now. I’ve had run-ins, respect, conflict — but it’s all part of the same story. Dre and his camp are legends. DJ Silk too. But even legends can be called out when they forget the real ones who were there on the journey. I’ll always give respect — I just demand it back.

BHH: What’s next for Tony DeYoung? More tracks? A full project?

DEYOUNG: Oh, it’s coming. These two tracks were the opening shots. I’ve got a full project lined up — visuals, features, everything. Expect more bold storytelling, more receipts, and no apologies. I’m not playing industry games. I’m flipping the board.

BHH: Final words for your fans and the industry watching you rise?

DEYOUNG: To my fans — thank you for riding with me through every era. To the industry — don’t underestimate the ones who came through the fire. I’m not a trend. I’m the storm after the silence. Tony DeYoung Entertainment is here to take over.

Tony DeYoung’s “DJ Silk Diss Track” and “Dr. Phil Diss Track” are now streaming on all platforms via Roc Nation Distribution. Stay locked into Billboard Hip Hop for more exclusive coverage.
