Gucci Mane is opening up about his struggle with schizophrenia — and how his wife, Keyshia Ka’oir, helps him manage the highs and lows that come with it.

During a recent interview, Ka’oir revealed the private steps she takes when her husband begins showing signs of a mental health episode.

“I have a system — I take his apps off his phone,” she said. “First thing I do, I delete Instagram. I delete everything. Even if I gotta change his password, I’m changing it because I don’t need the public to know he’s having an episode.”

Ka’oir explained that she’s learned to recognize subtle behavioral shifts before things spiral — silence, isolation, sleepless nights, and even distinct texting patterns. “Now, before the episodes come, I catch it,” she said.

“That’s why he hasn’t had another one. He doesn’t speak, doesn’t eat, doesn’t sleep. Text messages have a period after each word — that’s how I know.”

Gucci Mane, who has previously discussed his bipolar disorder and paranoid schizophrenia in his memoir and album Episodes, admitted that in the past, he acted impulsively during manic periods.

“I gave away jewelry. Jewelry costs so much, I would give my friends jewelry,” he said. “They knew I wasn’t well, but they’d take it.”

Following his 2016 release from prison, Gucci distanced himself from those who exploited his condition. The Atlanta trap pioneer — whose influence shaped artists like Future, Migos, and Young Thug — rebuilt his life with a focus on health, family, and self-awareness.

Since then, Gucci and Ka’oir have shared their journey openly, helping to dismantle stigma around mental illness in hip-hop. Now married with two children, the couple continues to balance fame and vulnerability — showing that even rap legends are human behind the spotlight.
