Miguel is setting the record straight.
After weeks of social media chatter surrounding the timeline of his divorce from Nazanin Mandi and the birth of his son, the R&B star addressed the speculation directly during an interview on The Breakfast Club.
Last month, Miguel celebrated his son Angelito’s first birthday in a touching video. The child was born to Miguel and Margaret Zhang, former editor-in-chief of Vogue China, sparking online debate about the timing.
“I have to say this. The f*cked-up part is that people start doing the wrong math,” Miguel said, making it clear the rumors didn’t line up with reality.
“The one thing I did not do is start a relationship while I was married and then have a baby.”
The “Adorn” singer explained that his relationship with Zhang began well after his split from Mandi, firmly denying any overlap between the two relationships.
“I got divorced and I’m going to say this straight up — everybody out there talking sh*t like I was still in a marriage and then I had a baby or was having an affair all this time, that’s not true,” he continued. “I met my son’s mom after we were divorced. I met her at an event that we weren’t even supposed to go to. That was well after we were done.”
When co-host Loren Lorosa asked how he felt about people being “upset” that he had a child with Zhang and not his ex-wife, Miguel brushed it off, noting that public scrutiny comes with the territory.
“It’s been a long time since I’ve had people feel the need to weigh in on my personal life,” he said, calling the gossip “a good reminder” of life in the spotlight.
Miguel also emphasized that sharing news of his son wasn’t a PR move but a deeply intentional moment. He spoke warmly about fatherhood and praised Zhang, calling her “an incredible partner” and saying their son “couldn’t have a better mother.”
“Life doesn’t always happen the way we imagine it,” Miguel reflected. “But I’m proud of where I am and who I get to share it with.”
