Judge Recommends Diddy Serve Prison Time in New York — Not New Jersey

Written by on 10/09/2025

Sean “Diddy” Combs could end up serving his prison sentence in New York if a federal judge’s recommendation sticks.

According to TMZ, Judge Arun Subramanian has advised that the 55-year-old music mogul serve his 50-month sentence at a facility in New York state. While the judge didn’t name a specific prison, he emphasized that the location should offer “any available substance abuse program, including the Bureau of Prisons’ Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP), for which [Combs] qualifies.”

This recommendation comes just days after Diddy’s legal team urged the court to place him at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey to keep him close to his family and provide access to rehabilitation programs.

“In order to address drug abuse issues and to maximize family visitation and rehabilitative efforts, we request that the Court strongly recommend to the Bureau of Prisons that Mr. Combs be placed at FCI Fort Dix for RDAP purposes and any other available educational and occupational programs,” defense attorney Teny Geragos wrote earlier this week.

Combs was sentenced to four years and two months in prison for two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. He’s already spent a year behind bars awaiting trial. During that time, he participated in several drug treatment and rehabilitation programs.

With time served, Diddy is expected to spend roughly three more years behind bars and must also pay a $500,000 fine.

While Judge Subramanian made his recommendation, the final decision on Diddy’s placement lies with the Bureau of Prisons.
