Kamala Harris Drops New Book Detailing 107-Day Campaign & Her Democratic Colleagues Are Not Happy

Written by on 09/23/2025

Kamala Harris is pulling back the curtain on her whirlwind 2024 presidential run with a brand-new memoir, 107 Days. The book, released today, offers a behind-the-scenes look at one of the shortest — and most dramatic — campaigns in modern political history.

Harris became the Democratic nominee after President Joe Biden stepped aside in July 2024 under pressure from party leaders. That left her with just 107 days to build a national campaign — a challenge she says tested her like never before.

Jamal Simmons, Harris’s former communications director, told The Hill that she “has a right to tell her story,” adding:

“I think people will read it and see she had a lot of hurdles to jump. Many of them she jumped well, and some she had a hard time with.”

Calling Out Biden’s Reelection Push

In the book, Harris doesn’t shy away from criticism, describing Biden’s decision to run for reelection as “reckless.” That’s a passage that’s reportedly rubbing some Democratic insiders the wrong way.

Some allies argue the book could have included more introspection about why her own campaign fell short. Others say it echoes Hillary Clinton’s 2017 memoir What Happened — another post-campaign reflection that stirred debate within the party.

Still, not all Democrats are worried. Strategist Anthony Coley praised Harris’s candor, saying:

“She’s peeling back a layer and showing the honesty people want to see from public officials.”

One strategist even suggested the honesty in 107 Days might have helped her connect with voters during the race.

Harris’s memoir is available now everywhere books are sold.
