Bronx drill rapper Kay Flock has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison, bringing a sudden and dramatic end to a music career that was gaining momentum before his 2021 arrest.

The 22-year-old artist, born Kevin Perez, received the sentence Tuesday from U.S. District Judge Lewis J. Liman, who sharply rebuked Perez for glorifying street violence and influencing younger fans during a violent 18-month stretch from 2020 to 2021.

“You taunted, you celebrated, and you helped create a cycle of violence,” Judge Liman said in court, pointing to Perez’s social media activity, including posts mocking cooperating witnesses and messages such as “KILL ALL RATS” following trial testimony from gang members.

Prosecutors argued that Perez played a leadership role in a Bronx-based gang known as Sev Side/DOA and was connected to four separate shootings that left multiple people injured. In March, a federal jury convicted him on charges including racketeering conspiracy and attempted murder.

While acknowledging Perez’s musical talent and potential, Liman described him as a “man of promise” whose actions required a severe sentence to protect the public and deter further violence.

Perez addressed the court before sentencing, insisting he had matured since his arrest. “What I was at 18 is not what I am today,” he said.

Kay Flock’s rise within New York’s drill scene had been swift prior to his legal troubles, but the sentence now ensures he will spend the bulk of his adult life behind bars, marking one of the most high-profile falls in recent hip-hop history.
