Kerrion Franklin, the eldest son of gospel legend Kirk Franklin, has reignited family controversy after posting graphic photos of scars on his back and alleging years of abuse at the hands of what he described as “parentals.” In a lengthy Instagram message, Kerrion claimed he was beaten “black and blue” starting as early as the first grade, saying pain—not joy—defined his childhood.
“These scars all over my back are not sex stories … being beat black and blue since 1st grade,” he wrote. “These scars are the only memories I have of my childhood.”
He alleged that the adults responsible “enjoyed expressing rotten rage” under the guise of discipline, with little to no compassion shown. Kerrion also suggested that multiple people who looked after him when his parents were busy contributed to the alleged abuse.
The claims stand in sharp contrast to Kirk Franklin’s public denials. Back in 2021, the gospel icon insisted “there hasn’t been any physical abuse,” though he did apologize after a profanity-laced audio clip of him threatening Kerrion surfaced. At the time, Kerrion told interviewer Larry Reid that he had often been left with caretakers who mistreated him physically while his father pursued his career.
Kerrion’s latest post has divided social media. Some commenters voiced disbelief, while others expressed sympathy and urged him to seek professional support. Kirk Franklin, for his part, has repeatedly said he loves his son and has described their relationship as an ongoing process of healing and reconciliation.
Neither Kerrion nor Kirk Franklin has released independent documentation to back or disprove the claims. Experts note that while social media allegations can spark scrutiny, legal investigations usually require corroborating evidence such as medical or official records.
