Mario Shuts Down Claims He Doesn’t Love Black Women

Written by on 09/25/2025

Mario is clapping back at critics questioning his love for Black women. The R&B singer took to Instagram Stories this week to address the online chatter, calling it straight-up “slander.”

“I’m so tired of the Black women slander in the comments about how I don’t like Black women and how Black women aren’t loved!!” he wrote. “If you’re making these comments, I’m convinced YOU have a problem with Black women.”

Mario doubled down with a clear statement: “Black women are loved and needed.”

The accusations started after he revealed his girlfriend, Esmeralda Rios, is Latina—and that they’re expecting their first child.

Some fans felt disappointed, claiming Mario’s long marketed his music to Black women without “building” with them personally.

One critic wrote:

“We’ve been holding you down for 20 years, Mario, and THIS is who you give a baby to?”

Another commented:

“He sings to us, profits off of us, but doesn’t build with us. Typical.”

But plenty of fans came to his defense.

“Y’all mad at Mario for loving who he loves? Please,” one person posted. Another added: “Love is love. If you were a real fan, you’d be happy he found someone.”

By addressing the situation head-on, Mario made it clear he wasn’t letting the speculation slide. While the debate continues online, he left no doubt where he stands.
