Max B Confirms Prison Release Date—The Wave Touches Down in November 9

Max B, The Wave God is almost home.
On Monday (Sept. 15), the Harlem legend—born Charley Wingate—jumped on Instagram with the news his fans have been waiting more than a decade to hear. In a letter from the New Jersey State Parole Board, Carla M. Shabazz, Director of the Division of Release, confirmed that his parole plan has officially been accepted. That means the Wave God is set to walk free from Northern State Prison on November 9—a day earlier than even he expected.
“The Wave touches down November 9. The countdown begins,” Max wrote in his caption.
For those who forgot, Max B’s story is one of hip hop’s most infamous sagas. Back in 2009, he was sentenced to 75 years behind bars after being convicted of murder and armed robbery in connection to a 2006 incident. Both he and his co-defendant, Kelvin Leerdam, were found guilty on nine out of 11 counts, including felony murder.
But the tide shifted in 2016. A state Superior Court judge tossed out his conviction due to a conflict of interest with one of his former lawyers. That crack in the case gave Max the opening to plead guilty to aggravated manslaughter, chopping down his sentence to 20 years with time served—making his upcoming release possible.
Once he’s out, Max will still face five years of probation, but that hasn’t stopped him from hyping up his comeback. French Montana, Jadakiss, Wiz Khalifa, and a wave of other heavyweights have already been showing love. Recently, he linked with Tru Life during a prison visit and even tapped in with Young Thug over the phone after Thug’s own release.
The bigger question: what happens when The Wave hits the streets again? Max has been teasing new music, and if history is any clue, the mixtape circuit and beyond might never be the same.
The countdown to November 9 is on. Harlem, the Bronx, and the whole rap game are watching.
