Nicki Minaj Walks Back Retirement Talk, Teases New Album and Tour

Written by on 10/16/2025

Nicki Minaj is not done with music after all. Less than 24 hours after declaring she was quitting, the rapper reversed course during an impromptu Twitter Spaces session Wednesday night (October 15), telling fans her 2026 album and a potential world tour are still on the horizon.

“I am the conductor of this train,” Minaj told her listeners. “When I want it to slow down, I slow it down. When I need it to speed up to give everyone a heart attack, I speed it up. But right before everyone thinks they’re about to go ‘Poof!’ I press the brakes. Why? Because I can.”

Minaj’s fiery response comes after a viral post Tuesday night where she claimed she was scrapping her album and blamed JAY-Z and Roc Nation for pushing her to the edge. But on Spaces, the tone was different — confident and energized.

She told fans she’d just written a “beautiful new song” and called her upcoming album “top two” in her discography, describing this new era as a personal reintroduction.

“I don’t want to say rebirth,” she added, “but it’s like an introduction to myself when I started — not the sound, but the person.”

When a fan from South Africa asked if she’d perform in Johannesburg, Minaj teased that a global tour remains on the table. “I’ll have my team look into it,” she said, fueling speculation of major live shows to come.

The reversal follows her ongoing feud with Roc Nation, which she’s accused of blacklisting her, manipulating the industry, and profiting from TIDAL without sharing revenue. Her initial retirement message had been aimed directly at JAY-Z, but Minaj now seems more focused on music than beef.

“Nothing is going to stop that,” she told her Barbz. “We are in the best musical place I’ve ever been in my life. Complete musical clarity.”
