NY Jets Player Kris Boyd In Critical Condition After Being Shot Outside Manhattan Restaurant

Written by on 11/17/2025

New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd is fighting for his life after being shot in Midtown early Sunday morning, according to police and team officials.

The shooting happened just after 2 a.m. on West 38th Street near Seventh Avenue. While NYPD did not publicly identify the victim, multiple outlets — including the New York Post — confirmed it was the 29-year-old NFL player.

“We are aware of the situation involving Kris Boyd and will have no further comment at this time,” a Jets spokesperson said.

Police say two shots were fired, though investigators have not determined whether Boyd was the intended target. As of Monday, there have been no arrests, and authorities are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect. The man was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt, black pants, a black cap, multi-colored sneakers and carrying a black backpack before fleeing east on West 38th Street.

A nearby bartender told reporters he heard a loud bang around 2 a.m. while closing up.

Boyd, a Texas native and University of Texas standout, entered the NFL in 2019 after being drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the seventh round. He played four seasons in Minnesota before short stints with the Arizona Cardinals and the Houston Texans’ practice squad. He joined the Jets on a one-year deal in March but has been sidelined with an injury since the summer.

Boyd remains in critical condition at Bellevue Hospital as the investigation continues.
