Patti LaBelle Strikes Major Deal with Primary Wave for Her Royalty Income Stream

Written by on 11/03/2025

Patti LaBelle has officially partnered with Primary Wave Music, signing a new deal that gives the powerhouse company control over the income from her music royalties — a catalog that spans six decades of groundbreaking artistry.

While financial details were not disclosed, Primary Wave confirmed the agreement covers royalties from LaBelle’s entire discography, which includes 18 studio albums and three live albums. The catalog features timeless classics such as “If Only You Knew,” “On My Own,” “New Attitude,” and the genre-defining anthem “Lady Marmalade.”

LaBelle’s 1974 hit “Lady Marmalade” reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was later immortalized by Christina Aguilera, Pink, Mya, and Lil’ Kim for the Moulin Rouge! soundtrack. In 2020, the Library of Congress inducted the original into the National Recording Registry, cementing its place in music history.

Beyond her musical legacy, LaBelle’s influence continues to echo across generations. Queen Latifah recently credited her as a pivotal mentor early in her career.

Patti LaBelle was one of those people who helped me actually stay in the business,” Latifah said. “When I was ready to walk away, Patti told me, ‘Don’t give up. Stay on your path. You’re going to get through this.’”

Primary Wave executive Steven Greener celebrated the partnership in a statement:

“We are so honored to be in business with a legend such as Ms. LaBelle. She’s a true icon and trailblazer. We look forward to doing great things together.”

With this latest move, Patti LaBelle joins an elite roster of music legends whose catalogs have found new life under Primary Wave — ensuring that her voice, spirit, and songs continue to inspire for generations to come.
