Porsha Williams Goes Public With New Love: “I Want To Live In My Truth”

Porsha Williams is stepping fully into her truth — and this time, she’s doing it on her own terms.
The reality star and entrepreneur went Instagram-official with her girlfriend, Patrice “Sway” McKinney, on her birthday in November, marking the first time Williams has publicly shared a same-sex relationship. Now, in a new interview with PEOPLE, she’s opening up about why she decided the moment was right.
“I’ve been in reality TV for 10-plus years,” Williams said. “But yes, this was definitely different for obvious reasons. I didn’t want to hide any parts of me… it just wouldn’t feel authentic.”
For Williams, choosing visibility was about choosing honesty — and happiness.
“I want to live in my truth,” she said. “And in doing that, I’ve found someone I really enjoy getting to know. It’s been great.”

She describes her connection with McKinney as warm, aligned, and deeply affirming.
“I think the best thing is when you find someone you can see yourself in,” Williams said. “You guys match, and everything is comfortable… it’s warm. And family. So I’m very blessed.”

The relationship comes after a turbulent chapter in Williams’ love life. Following her 15-month marriage to Simon Guobadia, she filed for divorce in February 2024 — and had initially planned a long pause before dating again.
“It’s lonely. I can’t connect with other men,” she said earlier this year. “I’m going to do it different this time. I’m going to be alone until I’m whole… so I don’t make the same mistake again.”
By October, Williams shared at CultureCon that she was spending time with both a man and a woman. She praised both for challenging her emotionally — something she wasn’t accustomed to.
“They’re asking me questions, they’re not letting me walk over them,” she joked to the crowd. “And so I’m not feeling safe enough to open up yet.”
That honesty, she said, pushed her to reflect:
“If you want something different, you have to also be different. I have to soften up a bit.”
Now, with McKinney, Williams appears ready to embrace that shift — publicly, proudly, and without apology.
