Prince Andrew Stripped of Title, Evicted from Royal Lodge as Palace Cuts Ties

Written by on 10/31/2025

Prince Andrew has officially been stripped of his royal title and ordered to vacate his longtime residence, Royal Lodge, according to a statement released Thursday (October 30) by Buckingham Palace.

The dramatic move marks the latest fallout from years of public scrutiny over Andrew’s association with the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and his involvement in a lawsuit filed by one of Epstein’s accusers.

“His Majesty has today initiated a formal process to remove the Style, Titles, and Honours of Prince Andrew,” the Palace said. “He will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. His lease on Royal Lodge has been terminated, and formal notice has been served to vacate the premises. These actions are necessary, notwithstanding his continued denial of the allegations against him.”

The statement also extended sympathy to abuse survivors:

“Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse.”

Andrew, 65, preemptively announced on October 17 that he would stop using all royal titles and honors, saying, “With His Majesty’s agreement, I will no longer use my title or the honours conferred upon me. I vigorously deny the accusations against me.”

His ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, will likewise cease using the title Duchess of York following the decision.

Andrew first stepped back from public duties in 2019 and later relinquished royal patronages in 2022 after a U.S. lawsuit by Virginia Giuffre accused him of sexual abuse when she was 17. Though Andrew settled the case privately—reportedly for millions—he has always denied wrongdoing.

Giuffre, who had been outspoken about her abuse and later died by suicide earlier this year at 41, remained a key figure in the movement demanding accountability from Epstein’s powerful circle.

The Royal Lodge eviction closes one of the last chapters of Andrew’s formal royal life—leaving the disgraced Duke-turned-private citizen without title, home, or official role.
