Hip-Hop history always has a way of surprising us, and here’s a gem you might’ve forgotten: Redman and Faith Evans used to be an item back in the day.
During a recent sit-down with Acton Entertainment, the Jersey legend opened up about what it was like watching his high school sweetheart eventually marry The Notorious B.I.G.
“When she started her relationship with Biggie, I was jealous,” Redman admitted with a laugh. “First of all… Faith was my sister’s best friend, and I met Faith through my sister. We were all young. Me and Faith was dating at a very young age before we got on. She’s always been a sweetheart to me.”
Redman said he even tried to get Faith connected in the industry early by introducing her to Erick Sermon, but at the time, his rap crew wasn’t focused on R&B. Since he was still finding his own footing, he couldn’t push her career forward the way he wanted. “She was amazing and still is today one of the best queens of R&B to me,” he said. “I wanted to put her on, but I was just getting on myself, so I really couldn’t do too much.”
By the time Faith linked up with Biggie, Redman’s career was already bubbling, and he admitted he was too busy wildin’ out on tour to dwell on it. “When she started dating Biggie and stuff … I was doing my thing. I was already on tour wildin’ out with chicks,” he recalled. “Me and her had split and parted ways, of course, but she would still come to see me. … Then she finally got on, and I was happy for her.”
Still, Redman made it clear that he respected her choices and celebrated her rise. “Faith has always been a smart person. She’s Brick City. She’s Jersey all day. So, of course, she’s going to move with good discernment,” he said. “Then they had a kid and I was just amazed at her outcome … literally getting on, being successful, being part of one of the hottest rap crews at the time. Only thing I could do was salute her, pray for her and wish her the best.”
Faith later confirmed their teenage romance on Drink Champs, proving the connection was real.
