Sean Paul Pledges $50K Match to Help Jamaica Recover After Record-Breaking Hurricane Melissa

Written by on 10/31/2025

Sean Paul is rallying global support for Jamaica in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa, which devastated the island earlier this week.

The Grammy-winning artist took to Instagram on Thursday (Oct. 30) to announce that he will personally match up to $50,000 in donations to aid recovery efforts.

“Right now, my island of Jamaica is going through a really tough time,” Paul wrote. “Hurricane Melissa has caused serious damage, and many of our brothers and sisters are struggling — families displaced, homes destroyed, and communities in need of help.”

Through his Sean Paul Foundation, the artist has partnered with Food For The Poor Jamaica to deliver immediate relief to those impacted.

“I’m asking all my fans, friends, and supporters worldwide — if you can, please give what you can. Every donation counts, no matter how small. Together, we can make a big difference,” he continued.

Paul added that his $50,000 match is a personal commitment to amplify the relief effort:

“To show how much this means to me, I’ll be matching every dollar raised, up to fifty thousand dollars. Together, we can double the impact and help even more families get back on their feet.”

He closed his message with a call for unity:

“Let’s stand strong for Jamaica — one love, one family, one nation.”

Hurricane Melissa struck Jamaica on October 28 as a Category 5 storm, packing sustained winds of 185 mph, the strongest hurricane ever recorded to make direct landfall on the island. Its slow pace brought catastrophic flooding, widespread power outages, and massive infrastructure loss bringing “damaging winds, flooding rains and dangerous storm surge,” per a National Hurricane Center (NHC) report.

At least seven people were killed when the storm made landfall near New Hope, on Jamaica’s southwestern coast. Melissa later weakened as it moved toward Cuba, the Bahamas, and Bermuda — but its devastation across Jamaica has left thousands displaced and in urgent need of aid.
