Written by on 09/21/2025

Charlene Keys — better known to the world as Tweet — is officially back. The GRAMMY-nominated singer took to Instagram over the weekend to announce her comeback single “Toot, Toot”, set to drop September 26, along with her new album Memoirs of a Southern Hummingbird.

“It’s time to take you back,” she told her 411k followers. “20 years in the making; I never left, I just kept recording. Next up is ‘Toot Toot’ from the highly anticipated Memoirs of a Southern Hummingbird.”

This moment marks a full-circle return for Tweet, whose debut album Southern Hummingbird (2002) gave us timeless hits like “Oops (Oh My)” and “Call Me.” The project shot to No. 2 on the Billboard R&B charts, cementing Tweet as one of the most distinctive voices of her era.

Her comeback also follows a noticeable break since her third studio album Charlene in 2016. With Memoirs, she’s giving fans a direct continuation of the world she first introduced more than 20 years ago.

Missy Elliott & Timbaland Connection

Tweet’s journey to stardom wasn’t without struggles. After years of setbacks, it was Missy Elliott who reconnected with her friend and helped bring her talent back into the spotlight. Partnering with producer Timbaland, Tweet joined Missy’s “Goldmind Records” and quickly became a fan favorite. Beyond her solo work, she blessed tracks with background vocals for heavyweights like Ja Rule, Trina, Monica, Angie Stone, and even gospel great Karen Clark Sheard.

Now, she’s ready to remind the world exactly why she earned the nickname “The Southern Hummingbird.”
