USPS Jacking Up Shipping Rates for Holiday Season Starting Oct. 5

The U.S. Postal Service is rolling out temporary price hikes just in time for the holiday rush.
Beginning Sunday, October 5, 2025, at midnight CST, shipping costs will go up for Priority Mail, Priority Mail Express, Parcel Select, and USPS Ground Advantage. The increases will stay in place through January 18, 2026.
Retail customers can expect price jumps between $0.40 and $7, depending on weight and destination. For example, Priority Mail packages heading to Zones 5–9 will see a $0.90 bump for 0–3 lbs. shipments and as much as $7 more for heavier parcels (26–70 lbs.).
According to USPS, the temporary adjustments are designed to offset extra handling costs and keep up with competitive pricing. The changes are part of its Delivering for America 10-year plan, which focuses on modernizing operations and boosting long-term financial stability.
The Postal Regulatory Commission has already signed off on the move, which will impact both retail and commercial customers.
For those planning to ship gifts this holiday season, USPS recommends mailing early. Deadlines include Dec. 17 for Ground Advantage and First-Class Mail and Dec. 20 for Priority Mail Express.
