Vic Mensa Slams Reported ICE Raids in Chicago: “The Gestapo Has Arrived”

Federal immigration officers have ramped up operations in Democratic-led cities across the country, with Chicago now in the spotlight. Despite pushback from city and state leaders, reports of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids are spreading — and Chicago rapper Vic Mensa is sounding the alarm.
In a video posted to Instagram, Mensa accused ICE of targeting Black and Latino residents in his hometown.
“[ICE] raided a building in South Shore in the middle of the night — a predominantly Black neighborhood — used flash grenades to wake people up, and arrested them naked. They rounded up and detained Black people and Venezuelans. ICE is separating Black parents from children, handcuffing kids, and choking out Black men at traffic stops,” he claimed.

The raids, if confirmed, come amid heightened national focus on immigration. Following the 2024 election — where conservative parties saw a bump in Latino support — some Black residents who once criticized ICE’s focus on Hispanic communities have reportedly been less outspoken. Mensa highlighted that divide, recalling,
“I even heard a young brother say, ‘y’all supposed to be choking out Mexicans.’”
Mensa urged unity between Black and Latino communities, stressing that both are being targeted.
“The divisions between Black and Latino people are significant. There are valid concerns. But at this moment, it’s suicidal to not be unified, because the same agents of the state are attacking, abducting, and killing us both at the same time. And they’re relying on our separation right now.”
The Chicago artist encouraged residents to know their rights, record ICE encounters, talk to their neighbors, and most importantly, protect themselves.
“Because the Gestapo has arrived, and this sh– is not sweet,” he warned.
