White House Shuts Down Reports of Trump Commuting Diddy’s Sentence

The White House is denying reports that President Donald Trump plans to commute Sean “Diddy” Combs’ 50-month prison sentence.
Speculation swirled Monday (Oct. 20) after TMZ reported that a “high-ranking White House official” claimed Trump was considering reducing the music mogul’s sentence, suggesting Diddy “could be set free as early as this week.”
However, a White House spokesperson told USA Today on Tuesday (Oct. 21) that there is “zero truth” to those claims.
“The president, not anonymous sources, is the final decider on pardons and commutations,” the official said.
Combs, who was convicted earlier this month on two counts of transporting individuals across state lines for prostitution, was acquitted of more serious racketeering and sex trafficking charges in July. On Oct. 3, Judge Arun Subramanian sentenced the Bad Boy Records founder to just over four years in prison and a $500,000 fine.
Since his September 2024 arrest, Combs has been held at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center. His legal team filed a notice of appeal this week, arguing that the sentence was influenced by conduct for which he was acquitted. If granted time served, Diddy could be released in less than three years.
The latest controversy follows Trump’s own comments earlier this month acknowledging that Combs had reached out seeking a presidential pardon.
“A lot of people have asked me for pardons,” Trump told reporters on Oct. 6. “I call him Puff Daddy; he has asked me for a pardon.”
In a separate Newsmax interview this summer, Trump said he would “probably consider” pardoning Combs but admitted that the rapper’s past criticism of him “makes it more difficult.”
For now, the White House insists no such commutation is on the table.
