Yvette Nicole Brown Claps Back: “Keep My Name Out Your Mouth” — Sets Record Straight on Chevy Chase Rumors

Written by on 01/01/2026

Yvette Nicole Brown is done letting other people narrate her story — especially when it comes to old drama tied to Community co-star Chevy Chase.

In a powerful Instagram statement, Brown addressed renewed speculation sparked by CNN’s new documentary I’m Chevy Chase and You’re Not. Director Jay Chandrasekhar recently discussed alleged tension between Brown and Chase, referencing the long-infamous 2012 incident that helped lead to Chase’s exit from the series. But Brown made it crystal clear — nobody has the right to speak for her.

“These are things I’ve never spoken of publicly and perhaps never will,” she wrote. “Anyone currently speaking FOR or ABOUT me with perceived authority is speaking without EVER speaking to me about the things they claim to know about. They actually don’t really know me — at all.”

Brown went further, stating that no one outside of her inner circle has any real insight into what her working relationships were — or are — with anyone she has collaborated with.

“They also have no knowledge of my relationship with anyone I’ve worked with. And cannot credibly speak on any current or previous issues,” she said, adding bluntly for emphasis: “In East Cleveland speak: Keep my name out your mouth.”

The actress emphasized that silence should never be mistaken for fear or passivity. If she wants to address something, she will — loudly and clearly.

“My motto is: do your own work so you don’t become labor for others,” Brown continued. “If I have something to say, I have NO problem saying it… When I choose not to speak on something, it’s because it will not change a thing.”

In the documentary, Chandrasekhar admits he didn’t know exactly what was said during a reported on-set conflict, only acknowledging that there was “history” and that Brown left after a comment Chase made. Even with that uncertainty, speculation once again hit social media — which Brown clearly has no patience for.

Bottom line? Yvette Nicole Brown isn’t here for half-truths, rewrites, or folks chasing headlines off her name. If she wants something said, she’ll say it. Until then, the message is simple: don’t assume, don’t embellish — and definitely don’t speak for her.
