At just 10 years old, Kendall Rae Johnson of South Fulton, Georgia is breaking barriers and planting seeds for the future — literally.
The fifth grader, who became the nation’s youngest certified farmer at age six, has now earned a full-ride scholarship to South Carolina State University for agriculture. The scholarship, which usually goes to student athletes, was awarded personally by SCSU President Alexander Conyers after he learned about Kendall’s remarkable journey.
“If I can give scholarships to athletes, I can give one to an ag scholar,” Conyers told Kendall’s family.
In her backyard, Kendall grows fresh vegetables, tends animals, and helps manage crops with her parents. What started as a small hobby has blossomed into a full lifestyle that’s reshaped the entire family.
“She just wanted to grow,” her mom Ursula said. “Once she found her love of growing, that blossomed into what you see today.”
Now, Kendall has big dreams for the future: expanding to a 100-acre farm complete with longhorn cattle, poultry, and more.
“I’m the first 10-year-old to get a full-ride scholarship!” Kendall said with pride.
Beyond her own garden, Kendall is using her platform to inspire other young people. She serves as a USDA National Urban Agriculture Youth Ambassador and encourages kids nationwide to chase farming scholarships and opportunities.
Her message is as bright as her future: “Keep growing. Keep going. Keep being amazing. You do you!”
