Jada Pinkett Smith Hit With $3 Million Lawsuit From Former Will Smith Associate

Jada Pinkett Smith is facing a new $3 million lawsuit from Bilaal Salaam — also known publicly as Brother Bilaal — a former associate and longtime critic of the Smith family.
Salaam, who has been embroiled in a public feud with the Smiths for years, now claims in a lawsuit obtained by People that Pinkett Smith attempted to “bribe, intimidate and suppress” him. He’s seeking damages for financial loss, reputational harm, emotional distress, health issues, and what he calls the “complete derailment” of his personal and professional life.
According to the filing, Salaam alleges an incident on September 5, 2021, at the Regency Calabasas Commons during Will Smith’s birthday celebration. He claims Pinkett Smith confronted him in the hotel lobby with a group of seven people, became verbally aggressive, and threatened him for “telling her personal business,” allegedly warning he would “end up missing or catch a bullet.”
Salaam says Pinkett Smith demanded he sign a nondisclosure agreement and followed him to his car while continuing to issue threats.
The lawsuit goes on to reference several high-profile moments tied to the Smiths — including the 2022 Oscars slap — claiming Salaam refused to assist with “crisis management” afterward because he believed the requests were “illegal, unethical, or morally compromising.” He now alleges that refusal led to a “retaliatory campaign” by individuals in the Smiths’ circle.
The filing also mentions the viral 2023 “We suin’” moment, which stemmed from Salaam’s interview with Tasha K where he claimed he walked in on Will Smith having sex with actor Duane Martin. The Smith family swiftly denied the story. In subsequent media appearances, Pinkett Smith publicly characterized Salaam as someone attempting a “money shakedown” and vowed legal action.
“We’re gonna take legal action,” Pinkett Smith said at the time. “It’s one thing to have your opinion about somebody, versus just making up salacious, malicious stories. That’s actionable.”
Salaam now argues those comments were part of a deliberate smear campaign intended to discredit him.
Pinkett Smith has not yet issued a new public response to the lawsuit.
