Amid Reports of Fans Refusing to Buy Tickets, Burna Boy Pledges to Cover Funeral Costs for Stockton Shooting Victims

Written by on 12/03/2025

With his public image taking a serious hit and fan sentiment turning increasingly sour, Burna Boy is attempting to redirect the spotlight. As backlash over his now-infamous Colorado concert incident continues to erode goodwill — and as reports of sluggish ticket sales pile up — the artist has announced he will cover the full funeral costs for the young victims of the Stockton, California mass shooting.

The November 29 tragedy, which unfolded during a birthday party, left more than 100 people dead, including children as young as eight. According to Burna Boy’s team, the Grammy winner was especially moved by the story of 14-year-old Amari Peterson, a standout student athlete with a 3.8 GPA. After learning about the teen, Burna Boy reportedly sought out community leaders to identify ways he could assist grieving families.

“When I heard about the children murdered in Stockton, my heart broke,” Burna Boy said in a statement. “No family should ever face this kind of pain alone. I wanted to do whatever I could to support these parents as they begin the long process of healing.”

Patrick Peterson‘s 14-year-old son was one of four people killed in a mass shooting at a child’s birthday party this weekend.

Peterson, who called his son “the perfect gift from God,” is now grappling with the painful memory of Amari’s final moments.

The humanitarian gesture comes at a moment when Burna Boy’s reputation appears to be slipping — not because of musical output, but because of his own behavior. The singer has quietly cancelled two dates on his No Sign of Weakness U.S. tour — the November 28 Minneapolis show and the December 1 Chicago stop — with no explanation provided. Meanwhile, today’s Boston stop at TD Garden shows more than half the arena still unsold, based on Ticketmaster’s seating chart.

The timing is no coincidence. The fallout from Burna Boy’s Colorado concert — where he publicly ordered security to escort a front-row couple out for appearing to fall asleep — has ignited widespread criticism. Outrage intensified after reports emerged that the woman removed had recently suffered a personal loss, a detail many fans viewed as proof of Burna Boy’s insensitivity and inflated ego.

Burna Boy later doubled down on Instagram Live, defending the incident and declaring he only wants “supporters who buy my tickets” in his audience — a remark that accelerated the backlash and fueled accusations that he has grown disconnected from the fans who built his career.

Now, online chatter suggests a growing number of fans are pushing back the only way they know how: refusing to buy tickets. While the rest of the tour remains on the books for now, the combination of public criticism, empty seats, and canceled dates paints a clear picture — Burna Boy’s once-untouchable momentum may finally be slipping, largely by his own hand.
