Big Sean is adding a new title to his résumé: NBA creative director.
This week, the Detroit Pistons announced the rapper and entrepreneur as the franchise’s new Creative Director of Global Experience, a role aimed at strengthening the team’s connection to culture, creativity, and fans around the world.
“It’s been an honor to serve the Pistons community, and stepping into this expanded role as Creative Director of Global Experience allows me to do it on an even bigger scale,” Big Sean said in a press release. “Detroit has always been rich with talent and culture, and my mission is to keep opening doors and hiring our city’s creatives to shine alongside one of the most iconic franchises in sports.”
In the role, Big Sean will help shape the Pistons’ brand through design, storytelling, and fan-facing experiences. He will also play a central role in expanding the organization’s community engagement efforts, including a newly launched initiative called Creatives Across Continents.
Described as a first-of-its-kind global creative program, Creatives Across Continents will invite designers, artists, and cultural tastemakers from around the world to create original work inspired by Detroit basketball. The initiative is scheduled to launch in 2026, with select participants receiving creative prompts directly from Big Sean and collaborating on a retail collection expected to debut later that year.
“Big Sean’s influence reaches far beyond music — he’s a global creative visionary who already brings Detroit wherever he goes,” said Alicia Jeffreys, EVP and Chief Marketing Officer for the Detroit Pistons. “As Creative Director of Global Experience, he brings authenticity, reach, and imagination to the Pistons brand. ‘Creatives Across Continents’ is the next step in introducing Detroit Basketball to the world, and we couldn’t imagine a better partner to lead that vision.”
A Detroit native, Big Sean has maintained close ties to the city throughout his career, frequently investing in local talent and community initiatives. The Pistons say additional details about the partnership will be announced in the new year, including projects tied to NBA All-Star Weekend, 313 Day, fan engagement, retail collaborations, and global creator opportunities.
For Big Sean, the role represents more than a title — it’s another opportunity to elevate Detroit’s creative legacy on a global stage.
