Michael B. Jordan Reflects on Chadwick Boseman’s Legacy: “I Wish I Had More Time With Him”

Michael B. Jordan honors Chadwick Boseman hours before receiving his own major career award

Michael B. Jordan is still carrying the weight of losing his friend, co-star, and cultural icon Chadwick Boseman. In a recent sit-down with CBS Mornings, the actor opened up about how deeply Boseman’s passing continues to shape his life, work, and spirit.

Journalist Tracy Smith referenced comments from director Ryan Coogler, who said that Boseman’s death “messed everybody up,” but may have affected Jordan most.

Jordan didn’t hesitate to speak from the heart.

“Chad was a very special person,” Jordan said, his voice filled with reflection. “I wish I had more time with him. That’s the hurtful thing.”

When asked whether he still speaks to Boseman in moments of reflection or need, Jordan didn’t shy away from admitting that his late brother-in-art remains an energy in his life.

“He’s in a place of higher understanding,” Jordan shared. “You know the saying, ‘They know my heart?’ He knows my heart, and he understands. I do speak to him.”

How Chadwick Still Inspires His Work

Jordan also revealed that Boseman continues to guide him creatively. While working on his latest project Sinners, Ryan Coogler encouraged Jordan to draw strength from Boseman’s legacy on set.

Jordan recalled how Boseman fully embodied King T’Challa, staying in character even off-camera.

“When Chadwick was playing T’Challa, he never broke. Even at home or on set — he always held that presence,” Jordan said. “Ryan, being the great director he is, knows what to say to get the best out of you. At one point he just said, ‘What would Chad do in this situation?’ And that was all I needed. It helped me lock in.”

Honoring a King

Boseman, who passed in 2020 after a private battle with colon cancer, was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in November. His widow Simone Ledward Boseman, along with Jordan, Ryan Coogler, Viola Davis, and Letitia Wright were all in attendance — a powerful reunion of the people who loved him most.

Jordan described the moment as emotional but healing.

“That was special. I couldn’t have planned it any better,” he told E! News. “Chad was a special person. Hearing people talk about him, honoring him, remembering him — it makes me feel full and happy. Sharing that day with him was really special.”

Years after his passing, Chadwick Boseman’s influence is still guiding Hollywood — and deeply shaping the hearts of the people who knew him best.
