Mo’Nique Says She Won’t Back Down From Oprah & Tyler Perry Feud – “I will not stop”

Written by on 09/16/2025

Mo’Nique is making it crystal clear: she’s not letting go of her grievances with Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry—no matter how much time has passed or how much heat she gets for it. The Oscar-winning actress and comedian says what happened years ago is still unresolved, and she refuses to accept what she sees as injustice.

“I’m Not Letting It Go”
Speaking on the Outlaws podcast, Mo’Nique addressed the long-standing rift, saying her career took a major hit after she declined to promote Precious for free. “People say, ‘Mo’Nique, when you gonna stop with Tyler and Oprah?’ I’m not! Just so we clear, I’m not!” she declared.

She argued that silence is part of the problem. “Just don’t say nothing, just keep moving on—and that’s why we continue to be treated the way that we get treated,” she said.

Still, Mo’Nique stressed that her fight doesn’t come from hate. “I love my brother and sister. Or my sister and sister … whatever it goes. I love all of them. However, wrong is wrong and right is right.”

Calling for a Public Apology
Mo’Nique says she has asked both Oprah and Perry for a public apology—specifically for painting her as “difficult” after the Precious fallout. She also blasted Oprah for interviewing her estranged parents on The Oprah Winfrey Show without her consent, something she says deepened her sense of betrayal.

“You don’t tell me you have my mother and my father on your show, and you think that’s just OK?” she said.

Bigger Than Just Mo’Nique
For Mo’Nique, this isn’t only personal—it’s about principle. She frames her stance as part of a bigger conversation about Black women in Hollywood, speaking up when they feel pushed aside or unfairly labeled. Since her 2009 Oscar win, she has claimed she was “blackballed” for refusing to play the industry’s unspoken game.

And until she feels Oprah and Perry publicly acknowledge the wrongs she says were done, Mo’Nique insists: “I will not stop.”
