The legendary Nas vs. Jay-Z rivalry just got a new chapter — and this time, it’s not about music.
Nas’ bid to expand Resorts World Casino in Queens cleared a huge hurdle on Thursday (Sept. 25), when a board unanimously approved a $5.5 billion integrated resort project that will make it the largest casino in the country.
The expansion will bring:
-
A state-of-the-art casino floor
-
30 new restaurants
-
A 7,000-seat entertainment venue for concerts, sports, and events
NBA champ Kenny “The Jet” Smith is also teaming up with the project to create a sports and media complex on site.
The move is expected to generate 24,000 new jobs and $1 billion in revenue during its first year.
Queens Borough President Donovan Richards celebrated the win with a nod to Nas, saying:
“There’s a theme in Queens and I know Nas is a part of it. Queens gets the money! Sorry Jay-Z. We win again.”
Meanwhile, Jay-Z’s bid for a Caesars casino in Times Square hit a wall last week, as a state advisory committee voted 4–2 against it, citing heavy opposition from the Broadway League and local residents.
Looks like in this round of the Queens vs. Manhattan casino battle — Nas takes the crown.
