Will Smith Faces Fan Backlash For Alleged AI-Generated Crowd Tour Video

Written by on 08/27/2025

Will Smith is facing backlash after fans accused him of using AI to generate fake crowds in a promotional concert video, with distorted faces fueling the criticism. Experts say the clip mixes real and AI content, underscoring growing concerns about how hard it is becoming to distinguish authentic footage from computer-generated material.

The rapper-actor is on his first headlining tour in support of his latest album, Based on a True Story, which released in March. This is Will’s first full-length album since his last album, Lost and Found, came our nearly 20 years in 2005. The Based on a True Story Summer Tour kicked off on June 25 at the Moroccan music festival Mawazine and is set to conclude on September 2 in Paris, France at ZĂ©nith. The 26-date tour includes stops in Germany, the United Kingdom, Norway and Spain.

Will recently posted a 59-second clip on his YouTube from his Based on a True Story Summer Tour on August 12 as it showed shots of various crowds with people fans screaming, getting emotional, grooving and holding adoring signs. He captioned the video, “My favorite part of tour is seeing you all up close. Thank you for seeing me too [red heart emoji].”
