UMass Lowell On Lockdown After Report of Armed Person Near Campus

The campus of UMass Lowell was placed on lockdown Wednesday afternoon after reports surfaced of a man possibly carrying a gun near student housing.
University officials confirmed the shelter-in-place order as police swarmed the South Campus, where the individual was last seen near the Riverview Suites residence hall.
Massachusetts State Police acknowledged that video circulating online appears to show someone walking with a weapon. They urged anyone with information to immediately call 911.
The FBI has also joined the investigation, working alongside state and local authorities. Officials stressed that while there was no report of gunfire or injuries, the public should avoid the area and remain vigilant.
All UMass Lowell classes and events were canceled, and alerts went out to the entire campus community throughout the afternoon.
Congresswoman Lori Trahan shared on social media that she was monitoring the situation closely:
“If you are in Lowell, please follow directions from Lowell Police Department and UMass Lowell.”
The heavy police presence was seen across the city and on campus, including tactical units and a state police helicopter overhead. The scare comes on what was supposed to be the first day of classes at UMass Lowell.
This is a developing story, and B87FM will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
