For Megan Thee Stallion, healing isnât just personalâitâs part of her mission. The Houston rapperâs transparency and advocacy for mental health have earned her a powerful new title: Mental Health Champion of the Year by The Trevor Project.
âMy goal has always been to use my platform to help break stigmas around mental health and provide resources for those seeking safe spaces to have honest and heartfelt conversations,â Megan said in a statement. âMental health impacts all of us, so itâs important to lead with love and empathy. Iâm grateful for organizations like The Trevor Project that are committed to spreading awareness and supporting our LGBTQ+ youth in powerful ways.â
The Trevor Project is the leading suicide prevention and crisis intervention nonprofit for LGBTQ+ youth, providing 24/7 support year-round.
Creating Safe Spaces Through Her Platform
In 2022, Megan launched Bad B*tches Have Bad Days Too, a digital safe space offering direct links to free therapy resources, crisis hotlines, and organizations prioritizing the Black community. The platform highlights therapy networks specifically for Black women and Black men, positioning itself as a one-stop hub for healing, self-awareness, and care.
Megan’s openness about her mental health journey has been a cornerstone of her public image. In her documentary Megan Thee Stallion: In Her Words, she revealed the deep anxiety and trauma she faced after the Tory Lanez shooting incident.
Megan admitted feeling like sheâd rather ânot live through thisâ than âlive with this.â That pain, however, became a turning point. After a 2022 break-in during her SNL performance, Megan cleared her schedule, checked into a mental health retreat, and began confronting her trauma with the help of therapy.
Today, Megan stands not only as one of hip-hopâs most dynamic forces but also as a powerful voice in the fight to destigmatize mental healthâespecially for Black women and LGBTQ+ youth.
