Akon is back to business after being briefly detained in Georgia last week. The 52-year-old artist, born Aliaune Thiam, was arrested on November 7 by the Chamblee Police Department on an outstanding warrant from Roswell.
According to DeKalb County Jail records, Akon was taken into custody just after noon and released around 6:30 p.m. after processing. Authorities have not disclosed details about the warrant, but officials confirmed his brief detainment.
The βLocked Upβ hitmaker appeared calm and composed in his mugshot, wearing a black hoodie. While the reason behind the warrant remains unclear, sources told CBS News Atlanta that Akon was held for about six hours before his release.
This isnβt the first time the Senegalese-American artist has faced legal challenges. In the late 1990s, Akon spent several months in jail over car theft allegations that were later dismissed. In 2008, he pleaded guilty to second-degree harassment for tossing a fan from the stage at a New York concert β earning community service and a fine.
Now, Akon is turning the page. Fresh off his performance in Delhi on November 9, heβs set to hit Bengaluru (Nov. 14) and Mumbai (Nov. 16) before returning to the U.S. for a Las Vegas show on January 3, 2026.
Despite the arrest, Akon has made no public statement β choosing instead to keep the focus on his global tour and his ongoing philanthropic work across Africa.
His message, it seems, remains the same: Stay locked in, not locked up. Checkout a hot new track from Akon with Shaggy & Dancehall artists Aidonia called Boom Body aka That Girl. Video drops NOV 14th 12pm EST
